I currently maintain a private studio of K-12 piano students from my home on the West Side of Madison. I seek to integrate a broad musical literacy into my work with piano students from the very beginning. Alongside teaching foundational principals of piano technique, I prioritize the development of strong aural skills, note reading, and foundations of music theory from the very beginning of each student's learning journey.
My teaching methods reflect a mixture of the traditional Russian music pedagogy, elements of American pedagogy and stylistic eclecticism, and my own unique instincts and vision, developed over many years of studying, performing, and teaching music in many contexts.
I take great joy in witnessing my students learn, grow and blossom into young people who can play the piano with expressive fluency and appreciate music on a deep level. In addition to their musical development, my students build proficiency with time management, goal-setting and goal-achieving, self-discipline, and organization skills. They demonstrate an increased awareness of choices they make and the consequences these choices bring. Most importantly, my students really get to know themselves and believe in themselves on a deeper level through this unique journey. I believe that serious musical study has the potential to serve each student in many ways, whatever paths he or she decides to pursue later in life.
